A beyond awesome weekend
spent visiting Belvai and Moodbidri in Karnataka. It started with the
excitement to visit the butterfly park. And it felt heavenly. Roaming in a park
filled with elegant flowers and butterflies all around me really made my
weekend awesome.
So we (Sunny and I) started our li'l expedition
at 8.00 a.m. from Mangalore. We reached Belvai after an hour and half. And
within half an hour, our friend plus tour guide Wilson took us to the park. And
I loved every moment of being there with the world's most beautiful creatures,
variety of them.
During the presentation that followed, learnt a
lot about butterflies. We were briefed about the types of species, difference between
moths and butterflies, eating habits, behavioural changes, life cycle,
adaptations and every thing relayed to butterflies, with pictorial examples. We
got to see many of those species in the park during the short span when we were
there.
Our next destination for the day was Soans Farm.
The botanical garden contains a variety of plants, bamboo and pineapple
cultivation. It was a learning experience to get to know about the various
types of fruit and floral plants. In the short span of time we saw thousands of
plants in the neatly maintained farm.
Next we headed to 1000 pillars temple. The Jain
Temple having got its name becuse of the pillars is made up of 1000 pillars (no, I
didn't count). It us a gigantic structure of great architectural and historic value.
It is a really wonderful creation. The fact that each and every pillar is
constructed differently mesmerized me.
Loved every moment of today. Hoping to visit
more places during the next two years I spend in Mangalore :) Karnataka is
wonderful too!
